There Was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe by Jane Cabrera; illustrated by Jane Cabrera. 2016. Acrylic, collage.

Brief summary: A more modern version of the well know English nursery rhyme with this old woman being kinder who recycles and reuses to make do with what they have around the home. She kisses them and puts them to bed instead of the “whipped them all soundly and put them to bed” version that I grew up hearing.

Comments: I will use this version and the one from the Mother Goose version I grew up with asking the kindergarten students which one they liked better and why.  There are several short youtube clips that I will use as well with my media literacy unit to demonstrate how a book/poem/nursery rhyme is made into a movie.
